Kilchberg is a municipality in the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland . It is the least populous municipality in the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

geography

Kilchberg is located in the so-called Eital at an altitude of 571  m above sea level. M. on a hill that rises on the western bank of the Eibach, a tributary of the Ergolz . Kilchberg forms an administrative association with the two neighboring communities Rünenberg and Zeglingen. The joint municipal administration is located in Zeglingen .

The municipality of Kilchberg borders in the northwest on Rünenberg , in the northeast on Tecknau , in the east on Wenslingen and in the south on Zeglingen .

history

In the early Middle Ages , a St. Martin's Church was built in the settlement as the mother church for the towns of Kilchberg, Rünenberg and Zeglingen , and in 1226 the settlement was named Chilperch after her . Kilchberg probably belonged to the diocese of Basel and later came into the possession of the Count of Frohburg . They passed the village on to a family who named themselves after Kilchberg, and the Counts of Thierstein have been mentioned as owners of the settlement since 1376 .

Between 1400 and 1870 the Canon Monastery in Rheinfelden held the church patronage over St. Martin, only then did this right pass to the city of Basel , which had been in the possession of Kilchberg since 1461.

politics

The municipal council consists of three members. Ernst Grieder-Rickenbacher has been the mayor since 2013.
