Arnold Baader

Arnold Baader (born February 16, 1842 in Gelterkinden ; † February 25, 1888 in Basel ) was a Reformed Swiss doctor and benefactor.

Life

Arnold Baader was the son of Johann Jakob Baader . After primary school, he attended grammar school in Basel. He studied medicine in Basel, Würzburg, Prague, Munich and Bern, where he graduated in 1866. In 1870 he became adjutant to the federal senior field doctor . He worked in field hospitals during the Franco-German War . Baader was a country doctor in Gelterkinden until 1878, shortly afterwards he opened a practice in Kleinbasel .

Because of his fame, he was asked for political mandates, but he declined all of them. He was a patron and promoter of the education and poor relief system, first in the upper part of the canton , then in the city of Basel. He was the district president of the Basellandschaftlichen Poor Education Association and worked as a school inspector in Basel . He also helped in various social institutions and was Vice President of the Swiss Medical Commission. From 1873 to 1886 he was editor of the correspondence sheet for Swiss doctors and central president of the Basel gymnastics clubs.
