Edward Barsegjan
Edward Barsegjan (born July 15, 1980 in Echmiadzin , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is an Armenian-Polish wrestler . He was Vice European Champion 2009 in the Greco-Roman style in featherweight .
Career
Edward Barsegjan was born and raised in Armenia . He also started wrestling in Armenia in 1988. He specialized in the Greco-Roman style. In 1999 he started for Armenia at the European Junior Championships in Budapest and came in 10th place in bantamweight.
As a result of the strong competition in Armenia, such strong athletes as Vahan Juharjan , Karen Mnatsakanjan u. Artak Harutjunjan , he did not appear in international championships in the next few years.
Edward Barsegjan therefore went to Poland and was naturalized there. As a member of GKS "Cartusia" Kartuzy , he was Polish featherweight champion in 2005 ahead of Thomas Swierk . Also in 2008 he was Polish featherweight champion. He was only allowed to compete in international championships since 2008. His first start in such a championship was at the European Championships this year in Tampere . He came there with victories over Andrejs Zjatkovs from Latvia and Michal Radok from Slovakia and defeats against Jarkko Ala-Huikka from Finland a . Sebastien Hidalgo from France in 7th place. At the Olympic qualification tournament in Novi Sad , he finished third behind Sebastien Hidalgo and Andre Berge from Norway together with his former compatriot Karen Mnatsakanjan. But since only three wrestlers received a ticket for the Olympic Games in Beijing , he had to play a playoff against Mnatsakanjan, which he lost on points. Mnatsakanjan therefore received the Olympic ticket.
In 2009 Edward Barsegjan became Polish lightweight champion, but started at the European championship this year in Vilnius in featherweight. He was in excellent shape there and won with victories over Håkan Nyblom , Denmark , Ivo Angelow, Bulgaria a . Fuad Alijew from Azerbaijan a . a defeat against Olympic champion Islambek Albijew from Russia the European Championship silver medal . At the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark he only managed to win one victory over Dimitri Alenski from Belarus, against Dilschod Aripow, Uzbekistan and Söner Sucu, Turkey, and thus finished 11th.
At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund he was in good shape again. He won there featherweight over Davor Štefanek , Serbia, lost to Rewas Laschchi , Georgia, came in the consolation round to a victory over Sebastien Hidalgo, France, but missed the fight for the medals by another defeat against Eusebiu Diaconu from Romania. He finished 7th.
In 2012, Edward Barsegjan took 3rd place in the Polish featherweight championship. He also got the chance to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics at a tournament in Helsinki. But he only finished 21st in this tournament. In 2013 he was again Polish featherweight champion and was used at the World Championships in Budapest. He won there over Diego Ribeiro Romanelli from Brazil and Jose Rodriguez Orozco from Venezuela, then lost to Iwo Angelow from Bulgaria. Since this later became world champion, he was able to continue in the consolation round, in which he first came to a victory over the strong Serbian Kristijan Friis , but then lost in the fight for a world championship bronze medal against Woo Seung-jae from South Korea. He came in 5th place.
Edward Barsegjan is also well known in German wrestling circles, as he competed for several German Bundesliga clubs (KG Dewangen, SC Anger).
