Georgian Carpen

Georgian Carpen (born January 21, 1987 ) is a Romanian wrestler . He became in 2012 Vice European Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in lightweight .

Career

Georgian Carpen started wrestling in 2000. He belongs to the sports club Alro Statia Brest and prefers the Greco-Roman style. His trainers were or are Dinu Obrocea and Peter Onciu. The 1.67 meter tall athlete is a student and competes e.g. Currently making a living from wrestling. In 2012 he was named Romanian Wrestler of the Year by the Romanian Wrestling Association. He is also well known in Germany's wrestling circles because he has been competing in the German Bundesliga for KSV Schriesheim since 2011 .

He made his debut on the international wrestling mat in 2004 when he started at the Junior European Championship (Cadets) in Albena / Bulgaria and finished 24th in the weight class up to 63 kg. In the years up to 2007 he took part in international junior championships several times, but could not place in the front field. In 2008 he moved up to the seniors, was in his weight class until 2011 behind Ionuț Panait "number 2" and was not used in any international championships between 2008 and 2011.

In 2012 he became the Romanian lightweight champion and then started at the European Championships in Belgrade. He was in excellent shape there and fought his way to the final in the lightweight with victories over Ion Luchiba, Moldova, Emilian Todorow, Bulgaria, Islambek Albijew , Russia and Jaroslaw Kardasch, Belarus. In this he lost against the German Frank Stäbler clearly on points. He became vice European champion.

In the following years he could no longer build on this achievement. He also missed qualifying for the London 2012 Olympics.
