Rəsul Abakər oğlu Çunayev (born January 7, 1991 in Qabaqçöl , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler . In 2014 he became Vice European Champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 71 kg body weight.

Career

Rəsul Çunayev started wrestling as a teenager in 2000. He focused on the Greco-Roman style. He belongs to the sports club Neftchi Baku and is or was trained by Ismail Tschopsijew and Samad Tschopsijew. He's a student.

Right at his first start at international championships, he won the junior European championship (Cadets) in the Greco-Roman style in Daugavpils in the weight class up to 58 kg in June 2008. He also won this title at the 2010 European Junior Championships in Samokow / Bulgaria in the lightweight category. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Budapest he came third in the lightweight behind Tschingis Labasaonow , Russia and Dominik Etlinger, Croatia. In October 2010 he won in Turin at the University World Championships in lightweight before Bálint Korpási from Hungary.

2011 Rəsul Çunayev won both at the Junior European Championships in Zrenjanin and at the Junior World Championships in Bucharest in the lightweight each a bronze medal. In Bucharest he lost it in the quarter-finals against Chingis Labasanov.

In 2012, his first senior year and in 2013, Rəsul Çunayev was not used at World and European Championships. In April 2012 he got the chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London at a tournament in Taiyuan / China, which he did not succeed. In July 2013 he achieved a great success at the Universiade in Kazan, because he won the lightweight there ahead of Islambek Albijew , Russia, Aschkar Schanbirow, Kazakhstan and Muhammet Kocatinaz, Turkey. Particularly noteworthy was his victory in the final after just 30 seconds over the ex-world champion Islambak Albijew and his subsequent dance of joy.

In 2014 he was used at the European Championships in Vantaa / Finland. In the weight class up to 71 kg he won over Sergejs Minonovs, Latvia, Yunus Özel, Turkey and Armen Wardanjan , Ukraine. In the final, however, he was clearly defeated on points against Tamas Lörincz from Hungary. He won an EM silver medal with it .
