Career

Abujasid Manzigow began wrestling as a teenager. He concentrates entirely on the Greco-Roman style. He belongs to the sports association "Burewestnik" Vladimir and was or is trained by Bislan Albukayev and Nadir Magomedow. The 1.75 meter tall athlete started as a junior in the weight class up to 63 kg, then switched to the weight class up to 66 kg and in 2017 to the weight class up to 71 kg or 72 kg body weight.

Abujasid Manzigow won his first medal at international level as a junior in the “Cadets” age group in 2010, when he won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 63 kg at the European Junior Championships behind Firuz Zukulidze, Georgia and Karapet Tschaljan, Armenia. In 2013 he became Junior World Champion (age group "Juniors") in Sofia in the weight class up to 66 kg body weight. In the final he defeated Schmagi Bolkwadze from Georgia.

In January 2014 he proved himself at the important "Ivan Poddubny" tournament in Tyumen. At this tournament, the starting places of the Russian Wrestling Association are awarded at the international championships every year. Abujasid Manzigow took 2nd place in this tournament in the weight class up to 71 kg behind Chingis Labasanow in 2014. A month later he was in Sofia in the same weight class winner at the "Dan Kolow" & "Nikola Petrow" memorial in front of Armen Wardanjan, Ukraine, Matthias Maasch, Germany and Ionel Puscasu, Romania.

With a view to participating in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he trained in the weight class up to 66 kg in 2015 and 2016. In 2015 he was the Russian runner-up behind Adam Kurak in this weight class. In January 2016 he started in this weight class at the “Iwan Poddubny” memorial in Tyumen and came together with Adam Kurak to only 3rd place behind Islambek Albijew and Artem Surkow. Participation in the 2016 Olympic Games was a long way off. In 2016 he became the first Russian champion in the weight class up to 71 kg.

In January 2017, Abujasid Manzigow was the winner of the "Ivan Poddubny" memorial in Moscow in the weight class up to 71 kg in front of Yuri Denisov. He was then used at the European Championships this year in Novi Sad in this weight class, where he defeated Dominik Etlinger from Croatia and Hassan Alijew from Azerbaijan, but lost in the semifinals against Balint Korpasi from Hungary. With a victory over Murat Dag from Turkey, he still secured one of the bronze medals. Then he was defeated at the Russian championship in the final of the weight class up to 71 kg by Adam Kurak and therefore had to leave the starting place at the world championship this year in Paris to Adam Kurak.

In 2018 Abujasid Manzigow became Russian champion in the weight class up to 72 kg body weight. In October 2018 it was used for the first time at a world championship for seniors, which took place in Budapest. He won in Budapest over Pawel Ljach from Belarus and then lost to defending champion Frank Stäbler from Germany. Since this reached the final, Abujasid was able to continue wrestling in the consolation round, in which he won against Giorgi Chuchua from Georgia and Demeu Schadrajew from Kazakhstan. In the fight for one of the bronze medals he was defeated by Rasul Tschunajew from Azerbaijan and finished 5th.

The year 2019 then turned out to be the most successful year in Abujasid Manzigow's career. First he was in the weight class up to 72 kg Russian champion before his old rivals Adam Kurak and Tschingis Labasanow. In April 2019 he became European champion in the same weight class in Bucharest, defeating Cengiz Arslan from Turkey in the final. In September 2019 he became world champion in the same weight class in Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan.
