Tschingis Suleimanowitsch Labasanow ( Russian Чингиз Сулейманович Лабазанов ; * April 18, 1991 ) is a Russian wrestler of Chechen origin. In 2014 he became world champion in the weight class up to 71 kg.

Career

Tschingis Labasanow began wrestling as a teenager in the Rostov region. His brother Ibragim, who is four years older than him, is also a top Russian wrestler. Tschingis Labasanow focuses on the Greco-Roman style and now lives and trains in St. Petersburg. His trainers were or are Abumuslim Duguschijew, Rustam Mambetow and Gasimeli Gasimow. At a height of 1.72 meters, it weighs around 75 kg and started in the lightweight category until 2013 and in the newly created weight class up to 71 kg body weight since January 1, 2014.

His first participation in an international championship was at the Junior European Championship 2008 (Cadets) in Daugavpils . He won there in the weight class up to 63 kg before Jaraslau Kardasch, Belarus and Dominik Etlinger from Croatia. In 2009 he took 3rd place at the Russian Junior Lightweight Championship. In 2010 he was used at the Junior World Championships in Budapest in lightweight , where he won the title from Dominik Etlinger, Ellise Coleman from the United States and Rəsul Çunayev from Azerbaijan. In 2011 he defended this title at the Junior World Championships in Bucharest. He won there before Ion Luchiță from Moldova, Ellise Coleman and Rəsul Çunayev.

After the age-related transition to senior citizens, it took two years to prevail in Russia against the extremely strong competition in this age group. In January 2014, he won the renowned Ivan Poddubny Memorial in Tyumen in the newly created weight class up to 71 kg, ahead of his compatriots Abujasid Manzigow , Adel Sadikow and Sergei Zacharikow. In February 2014 he was part of the Russian team that competed in the Team World Cup in Tehran. In the final of this World Cup, Russia and Iran faced each other. This final was won by Iran 6-2 victories. Tschingis Labasanow lost it in his fight against Saeid Mourad Abdvali on points. He was then used at the European Championships in Vantaa / Finland. There he won over Manuchar Tschadaia , Georgia, Mathias Maasch, Germany and Sharur Wardanjan , Sweden, then lost to Tamás Lőrincz from Hungary and against Aljaksandr Dsemjanowitsch, Belarus. He finished 5th.

Shortly thereafter, he became the first Russian champion in the weight class up to 71 kg and relegated such experienced wrestlers as Yuri Denisov and Ambako Watschadze to the places. With a lot of self-confidence, he drove to the World Cup in Tashkent in September 2014. He was able to convince there completely and became world champion before Yunus Özel , Turkey, Rəsul Çunayev and Afshin Bjabangard, Iran.

In February 2015 he was in Tehran together with Yuri Denisov in the weight class up to 71 kg in the Russian team, which came in second behind Azerbaijan. Then he switched to the weight class up to 75 kg and was used in this weight class at the 1st European Games in Baku. There he defeated Martin Szabó from Hungary and Ewerik Nikoghosjan from France, then lost to Elwin Mursalijew from Azerbaijan and secured a bronze medal in the consolation round with wins over Ionel Puşcaşu, Romania and Surab Datunashvili from Georgia. It was not used at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas.

In January 2016, Tschingis Labasanow caused a surprise at the "Ivan Poddubny" tournament in Tyumen when he defeated the reigning world champion Roman Vlasov in the final in the weight class up to 75 kg . At the 2016 European Championships in Riga, however, he could not convince. In the weight class up to 75 kg he won there first against Arkadiusz Kulinicz, Poland, but then lost to Elvin Mürsəliyev from Azerbaijan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 11th place. At the Russian championship in 2016, he finished second in the weight class up to 75 kg behind Ilyas Magomadow and ahead of Alexander Chechirkin. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Roman Vlasov was used in his weight class, who also won the gold medal there.

In January 2017, Tschingis Labasanow won the "Iwan-Poddubny" Memorial in Moscow in the weight class up to 75 kg before Alexander Chechirkin and was then used in May 2017 at the European Championships in Novi Sad in this weight class. He had three wins there and met in the final against the Egyptian Tarek Mohamed Abdelslam Sheble Mohamed, who appeared as the "Bulgarian", to whom he lost on points.

In 2018, Tschingis Labasanow was only used at the military world championships in Moscow in the weight class up to 77 kg. In the final he lost there against the Azerbaijani Hassan Aliyev .
