Alexander Konstantinowitsch Czechirkin ( Russian Александр Константинович Чехиркин ; born March 13, 1986 ) is a Russian wrestler . In 2014 he became European champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 75 kg and in 2018 world champion in the weight class up to 77 kg body weight.
Career
Alexander Chechirkin comes from the Rostov-on-Don region, where he still lives. He started wrestling as a teenager in 1999, focusing on the Greco-Roman style. His trainers were or are S. Alubayev and RA Boltunow. The 1.75 meter tall athlete has always started as an adult in the welterweight division and since January 1, 2014 in the weight class up to 75 kg body weight. Currently wrestling is also his job.
He made his debut on the international wrestling mat in 2007 when he came in second at the European Junior Championships in Szombathely in the lightweight category behind Vladimir Lohyda from Ukraine.
In 2009 Alexander Czechirkin was the first Russian welterweight champion in front of Evgeni Popow, Oleg Berdinsky and Anton Chomenko. He also won medals at the Russian championship in the following years, with the exception of 2012. In 2010 he took 3rd place behind Imil Sharafetdinow and Warteres Samurgaschew . He also reached this place in 2011, where he came in behind Roman Vlasov and Imil Sharafetdinov and in 2013 he was Russian runner- up behind Ilyas Magomadov, but ahead of Yevgeny Saleev and Ruslan Belcharoev .
In the years from 2008 to 2013, however, he did not make any further appearances at international championships. Above all, Roman Vlasov, the 2012 Olympic welterweight champion, overtook him in Russia. Alexander Czechirkin achieved good placements or even tournament victories in several important international tournaments. Perhaps the most important victory of his career was at the "Ivan Poddubny" memorial in Tyumen, which was also considered a qualification for the 2014 European Championship. In this tournament he was able to defeat Olympic champion Roman Vlasov in the final and win this tournament. It was then used in April 2014 in Vantaa / Finland at the European Championships in the weight class up to 75 kg. In Vantaa he defeated Elwin Mursalijew, Azerbaijan, Mateusz Lukasz Wolny, Poland, Laszlo Szabo, Hungary and in the final in a tough and even battle, Arsen Dschulfalakjan from Armenia. As a 28-year-old, he became European champion for the first time.
In 2015 and 2016 he did not appear in international championships, which was primarily due to the fact that he starts in the same weight class as Roman Vlasov, who also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro that year. At the Russian championship in 2016, Alexander Czechirkin came third in the weight class up to 75 kg behind Ilijas Magomedow and Tschingis Labasanow.
In 2017 he became Russian champion in the weight class up to 75 kg. He then represented the Russian colors at the 2017 World Cup in Paris in the weight class up to 75 kg. He won there over Fatih Cengiz, Turkey, Oldrich Varga, Czech Republic, Zhang Gang, China and Tamas Lörincz, Hungary. In the final battle he was defeated by Viktor Nemeš from Serbia just on points and finished 2nd. However, he tested positive for cortisone during the doping control . He was therefore disqualified and banned for four months.
After the suspension had expired, Alexander Chechirkin was again the Russian champion in the weight class up to 77 kg in 2018. In October 2018, he was back at the World Cup in Budapest. He won in Budapest in the same weight class over Igor Petrisnin, Israel, Kairatbek Togulbajew, Kyrgyzstan, Viktor Nemes, Elwin Mursaliejew, Azerbaijan, Alex Michel Bjurrberg Kessidis, Sweden and Tamas Lörincz and became world champion for the first time.
In June 2019, Alexander Chechirkin won the European Games in Minsk in the weight class up to 77 kg. In the final, he defeated Karapet Chaljan from Armenia.
