Diána Igaly

Diána Igaly (born January 31, 1965 in Budapest as Diána Cziraki) is a former Hungarian sports shooter . She won an Olympic gold medal in 2004, the only one so far (as of 2018) for a Hungarian sportswoman.

Career

Igaly was the European Junior Champion in Skeet in 1983 , and in 1984 she received the silver medal. In 1990 she won the bronze medal at the European Championships, in 1991 she was European champion. At the 1992 Olympic Games , in contrast to the World and European Championships, men and women competed together in an open competition, which was won by a woman, the Chinese, Zhang Shan . Igaly finished 42nd in this competition. In 1994 Igaly won the bronze medal at the European Championships and silver at the World Championships. 1995 World Championship bronze followed.

In 1998 Igaly won her first world title in Barcelona. In 2000 she won bronze at both the European Championships and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. In 2002 she won her second world title in Lahti. In 2003 she finished third at the World Championships in Nicosia. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she scored 97 goals, four goals ahead of Chinese Wei Ning and defending champion Zemfira Meftachetdinova from Azerbaijan.

Igaly remained active for a few years, so she only narrowly missed the finals at the 2008 Olympic Games , and after 2004 she did not win any international medals. Diána Igaly was married to her trainer Jozsef Igaly, but the marriage is now divorced.
