Zhang Shan ( Chinese 張 山 , Pinyin Zhāng Shān ; born March 23, 1968 in Sichuan ) is a Chinese sportswoman and Olympic champion.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , the Chinese surprisingly won the skeet competition. The peculiarity of their victory was that the target shooting competitions had been held together as open competition for men and women since 1972. Zhang Shan was the woman ahead of all men in the skeet and won the only ever Olympic victory for a woman in an open shooting competition. Four years later, at the Atlanta Olympics , there was no skeet competition for women and Zhang Shan was unable to defend her victory. It was not until 2000 in Sydney that women target shooting became an independent Olympic competition. The Chinese came in eighth. Zhang is a manager in the Chinese sports shooting team.
