Gabriele Rossetti (marksman)

Gabriele Rossetti (born March 7, 1995 in Florence ) is an Italian marksman in the discipline of skeet . In 2016 he was Olympic champion in this discipline.

Athletic career

Gabriele Rossetti began shooting in 2008, and from 2010 he took part in international championships in the junior division. In 2012 he was runner-up in the Junior European Championships, in 2014 he won both the Junior European Championships and the Junior World Championships. The following year he repeated the victory at the Junior European Championships, and in 2015 he finished third at the Junior World Championships. He also won the 2015 World Cup final in Nicosia.

In 2016, he finished twelfth in the adult class at the European Championships. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he shot 121 targets in qualifying and needed 12 shots in the shootout until he reached the semi-finals. In the semifinals, Rossetti and the Swede Marcus Svensson were able to prevail with 16 hits and 16 shots. Rossetti won the final with a hit in the 16th shot, by then both opponents had hit all the targets.

In 2017 Rossetti received the silver medal behind the Czech Miloš Slavíček at the European Championships in Baku . At the World Championships in Moscow he won the title two goals ahead of the German Vincent Haaga . In 2018, Rossetti finished ninth at the European Championships and tenth place at the World Championships. In 2019, the second European Games were played in Minsk . Rossetti won the bronze medal in the men's competition behind the Swede Stefan Nilsson and the Czech Tomáš Nýdrle . In the mixed competition, Chiara Cainero and Gabriele Rossetti won ahead of their compatriots Diana Bacosi and Riccardo Filippelli .

Gabriele Rossetti is a member of the Fiamme Oro police sports group . His father Bruno Rossetti won an Olympic bronze medal in the skeet in 1992.
