Alpina B6 GT3

The Alpina B6 GT3 is a Gran Turismo racing car in the GT3 group owned by Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen .

The vehicle was particularly successful in the ADAC GT Masters . From 2009 to 2012, the Alpina B6 GT3 won this racing series in a total of twelve races. Alexandros Margaritis and Dino Lunardi won the drivers' championship in the 2011 ADAC GT Masters in the Alpina B6 GT3.

development

In 2008, Alpina decided to develop a racing car based on the Alpina B6 S according to GT3 regulations. The 4.4-liter V8 engine with supercharging was carried over from the production vehicle, the output remained at 390 kW (530 hp) and the maximum torque at 725 Newton meters. The curb weight has been reduced from around 1700 to 1300 kilograms. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds and reached a top speed of 285 km / h on the Nürburgring - Nordschleife . At the beginning of 2009, the car completed its first test drives on the racetrack and was presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March .

The car was heavily modified for the 2011 season, in addition to the chassis and aerodynamics, the engine and transmission were also revised. Due to the high vehicle weight and the very high torque, the drivers often had to contend with excessive tire wear. The vehicle, officially known as the Alpina B6 GT3 Evo 2011 , was equipped with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, which reduced the car's fuel consumption by 15 percent, and the curb weight was now reduced to 1230 kilograms. The engine used is largely based on the BMW unit from the American Grand-Am Sports Car Series and also has an output of 390 kW (530 hp), but a maximum torque of just 530 Nm.

Races

In 2009, Alpina fielded two vehicles in the FIA GT3 European Championship , making its comeback in racing after 20 years. The best results were second places for Jens Klingmann and Martin Matzke at the Circuit Paul Ricard and for Claudia Hürtgen and Csaba Walter at the Circuit Zolder . Alpina took seventh place in the team classification. Alpina also started two B6 GT3s in the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring and in some races of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring and the ADAC GT Masters . Andreas Wirth and Klingmann achieved their first race win with the Alpina B6 GT3 in an ADAC GT Masters race at the Nürburgring. Hürtgen and Maxime Martin were able to win the two finals in Oschersleben again. In addition, the French racing team Sport Garage was the first customer team to enter the GT3 European Championship and the French GT Championship with two Alpina B6 GT3s in 2009.

After the 2009 season, Alpina temporarily ended its works races with the B6 GT3, as the manufacturer now wanted to concentrate more on supporting customer racing. The vehicles were sold to the Austrian team S-Berg Racing , which competed in the 2010 GT3 European Championship and the ADAC GT Masters. Andreas Wirth and Martin Matzke won the two races at the Nürburgring in the ADAC GT Masters. They finished the season in sixth place in the drivers' standings, while S-Berg Racing finished fifth in the team standings. Sport Garage continued to field two Alpina B6 GT3s in the French GT championship in 2010.

In 2011, S-Berg Racing and Sport Garage did not contest any further races with the Alpina B6 GT3. Instead, Engstler Motorsport took part in the ADAC GT Masters as a new customer team with two vehicles that were now equipped with the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine. The driver pairing Alexandros Margaritis and Dino Lunardi won 4 of 16 races of the season (Oschersleben, Zolder, Assen , Hockenheimring ) and took the title. Engstler Motorsport came in second in the team classification. In 2011, an Alpina B6 GT3 under the direction of the Marc VDS Racing Team was used in one race of the Blancpain Endurance Series and in three VLN races under the direction of Dörr Motorsport .

Alpina returned to the ADAC GT Masters in 2012 and fielded an Alpina B6 GT3 with the crew of Dino Lunardi and Maxime Martin. The second vehicle continued to run under the direction of Engstler Motorsport. Lunardi and Martin won 3 of 16 races (Oschersleben, 2 × Nürburgring). The driver duo had a promising fight for the title for much of the season and finally ended the season in fourth place in the drivers' standings. During the season, the engine power was reduced three times by a smaller air flow limiter . Alpina saw itself at a disadvantage in the “Balance of Performance” from the DMSB and withdrew from the ADAC GT Masters at the end of the season.

In 2013 there is no Alpina B6 GT3 in action in an international racing series.
