The Alpina B9 is a vehicle by Alpina that was built in small series from November 1981 to December 1985 based on the BMW E28 528i . Around 500 copies are said to have been made.
Technology and modifications
The B9 is based on the 528i model, whose M30 2.8-liter BMW engine has been replaced by a 3.45-liter Alpine engine. The alpine engine is also based on the M30 engine in the 3.5 liter version, but has been extensively modified. Alpina swapped the cylinder head, pistons, camshaft and the Motronic . The engine transmits its power to the rear wheels via a Getrag five-speed gearbox; an automatic gearbox was also available as an alternative. The chassis of the 5 series was replaced by a Bilstein chassis with gas pressure dampers, the B9 was supplied with 16-inch wheels as standard (see picture). Alpina also remodeled the interior. Among other things, Recaro seats, a new gear lever and modified round instruments were installed.
