The Alpina D5 is an upper middle class passenger car model from the small series manufacturer Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen , which is based on the 5 series from the automobile manufacturer BMW . It is manufactured as a sedan and station wagon . It is the diesel version of the Alpina B5 .

The first generation of the D5 was built from 2011 to 2016 and was based on the BMW F10 / F11 . In contrast to the Alpina B5, the diesel variant was only available with rear-wheel drive .

The second generation of the D5 was announced on July 20, 2017. It is based on the BMW G30 / G31 and takes over the drive from the previous model. Compared to this, the output increases by 28 kW (38 PS) to 285 kW (388 PS). The now all-wheel drive vehicle accelerates to 100 km / h between 4.4 and 4.6 seconds, depending on the variant. With a top speed of 286 km / h, the sedan is the fastest series-produced diesel vehicle in the world. The D5 S has been sold since the fourth quarter of 2017.

In June 2020, Alpina presented a revised version of the D5. It should go on sale in October 2020.
