Motronic
The Motronic ( registered trademark of Robert Bosch GmbH ) is a freely programmable, digital engine control for gasoline engines , which was introduced in 1979. The name is derived from the words motor and electronic. This is due to the fact that with the Motronic, the data for the intake manifold injection and the ignition were combined in one control unit for the first time .
The previous L-Jetronic system was a gasoline injection system with a separate ignition system. With the Motronic, an engine control with a microcontroller was integrated into a series vehicle for the first time . The first vehicle with Motronic was the BMW 732i presented in 1979 .
Since 1995, systems with an electronic accelerator pedal E-Gas ( ME-Motronic ), in which the accelerator pedal position is transmitted electronically, have increasingly replaced the cable systems that were customary up to that point. MED-Motronic (from 2000) is the name of a control system for direct injection systems .
Bosch has been using a new generation of Motronic since 2014: MDG1. The new family of engine control units supports modern communication standards such as Ethernet and can be used for the first time for diesel and gasoline engines.
