Uthman Samaai (* 14. May 1993 in Cape Town ) is a South African hockey player who since November 2012 at the US Nazareth College in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association on the position of the striker plays. Since 2010 he has represented the South African national ice hockey team regularly at ice hockey world championships .

Career

Samaai, who in addition to ice hockey also operates rugby union , water polo and field hockey , initially played in his hometown of Cape Town between 2008 and 2012 with various teams in the Cape Town Hockey League under the jurisdiction of the Western Province Ice Hockey Association . After completing his education he moved in November 2012 to the US Nazareth College in Rochester in the state of New York . There he was used sporadically in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons in the team of the Golden Eagles in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

International

Samaai represented his home country at the World Championships for U18 Juniors in Division III in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . In a total of twelve missions, the striker achieved 28 points scorer . In 2010 Samaai represented South Africa for the first time at the Men's World Championships in Division III. This was followed by further appearances in 2011 and 2013 in Division III and in 2012 , 2014 and 2015 , when he was voted the best player of his team, in Division II. In 2011 and 2013 he rose with the national team from the Division III into Group B of Division II. After the first ascent in 2011, the direct relegation to Division III followed in 2012. In 2015 he scored all three goals in the 3-1 win over New Zealand , but still had to accept relegation to Division III with the Africans, as the decisive game against Israel was lost 6-3.
