The European championships in the sport of pétanque have been organized by the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP) since 1997.
European championships for adults (" seniors ") women, espoirs and youth are held.
At the meeting of the CEP on the fringes of the European Pétanque Championship in 2011 it was decided that in 2012 the first European Championship of the so-called " Veterans " (55 years and older) will be held in Denmark.
Seniors
In 2009, the first European Championship took place in Nice, which also served as qualification for the 2010 World Championship. For Germany, Jan Garner, Martin Kuball (both VFPS Osterholz-Scharmbeck), Daniel Reichert (BC Tromm) and Mahmut Tufan (1st BC Kreuzberg) secured participation in the World Cup a year later with a 9th place. In 2015, Germany missed the A tournament, but secured first place in the B tournament.

Espoirs
Team / triplet
European Championships of Espoirs ( U23 ) were held for the first time in 2008 . Unique in pétanque, there are separate competitions for women and men. There are no other pure men's competitions in pétanque, the senior age group is open to women and men.
Due to the registrations, a qualification was only necessary for the men. The German women's team with Julia Würthle (Horb), Anna Lazaridis (Marl), Muriel Hess (Horb) and Judith Berganski (Lübeck) became vice-European champions.
In 2009 the EM took place in Germany. In the Pétanquehalle in Düsseldorf, the same German women succeeded in winning their first title for the DPV at an official international championship after silver in the previous year. The men (Micha Abdul, Zeki Engin, Jannik Schaake, Florian Korsch) completed the good German result with bronze.
In 2011 in Roskilde (Denmark) the German women repeated the success of 2009 with Lea Mitschker, Natascha Denzinger, Muriel Hess and Julia Würthle and became European champions again. The men also took bronze again.
In contrast to other international competitions, not only a triplet, but also a double and a tête-à-tête were played until 2015 . Since 2016, the European Espoir Championships have also been held in the "classic" triplet mode and without pre-qualification.
