The 3rd European Pétanque Championship 2013 will take place from October 10th to 13th in Rome ( Italy ).
It served as a qualifying tournament for the 2014 World Cup . Of the 36 participating nations, 24 will qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Tahiti .
At the same time as the European Triplet Championship, the 3rd European Championship will take place in the Tir de précision .
The defending champion is France in both disciplines.
The European Championship is organized by the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP), the European umbrella organization.
Triplets
As in world championships, the game is played in triplet mode with a substitute. During a game, a player can be substituted and the substitute player can be substituted on.
Each team has to play at least six games due to the mode.
The defending champion is France.
mode
In contrast to the EM 2011 , the preliminary round is no longer played in groups, but in the Swiss system as in the world championships . As a result, the EM will be held in three phases:
Phase 1 - Swiss system .
The 36 teams play 5 rounds according to the Swiss system. The first 16 of the final table reach phase 2, the remaining 20 teams continue to play in the Coupe de Nations, the "B-EM".
Stage 2 - Four Poules.
The 16 remaining teams play the eight quarter-finalists in four four- poules .
Phase 3 - knock-out.
In the quarter-finals, Poule winners meet Barrage winners. The semifinals will then be drawn anew.
All teams that reach phase 2 of the A-EM are qualified for the 2014 World Cup.
The 20 teams that failed in the preliminary round will play in a B European Championship (Coupe de nations) for the remaining eight starting places for the 2014 World Championship. If France, already qualified as World Champion 2012 for the next World Cup, should make it into the top 16, nine starting places will be awarded awarded in the Coupe de nations.
First, a cadrage is played to reduce the field of participants to 16. This is completed by the teams in places 29–36.
The equipes that reach the quarter-finals are qualified for the World Cup and play the winner of the B-EM in the knockout system. A last starting place goes to the Barrage loser, who was placed highest in the preliminary round table.
Time schedule
A busy program awaits the Equipes; the future European champion has to play up to eleven games over three days, for the 36 participants in precision shooting there are up to five exercises of 20 shots each.
The EM will open on Thursday with the draw for the first round and a meeting of the CEP. This is followed by the preliminary rounds in the Tir de précision. The players who have not been nominated for this competition will intervene on Friday. The first of five rounds according to the Swiss system starts at 8 a.m.

Attendees
In September it became known that 36 nations would take part in the European Championship. Each team consists of four players. In addition, each country provides a participant for the competition in the Tir de précision.
Participating Nations
The quarter-finalists of the EM 2011 are seeded in the first round of the Swiss system and cannot meet.
Participating players
The DPV , 5th of the EM 2011, nominated In August Toufic Faci (BC Edingen-Neckarhausen / Baden-Württemberg), Jan Garner (VFPS Osterholz-Scharmbeck / Lower Saxony), Till-Vincent Goetzke ( TuRa Braunschweig ) / Lower Saxony and Daniel Reichert ( PCB Horb / Baden-Württemberg) for the EM.
Garner and Reichert, who will also compete in the Tir de précision, were already together in the 2009 EM squad, and for Goetzke and Faci it is their first appearance in an international men's competition.
Defending champion France nominated two European champions from 2011 with Dylan Rocher and Kevin Malbec, plus Jean Feltain and Zvonco Radnic.

Swiss system
With a mode similar to that of the 2012 World Cup, all teams were guaranteed five games.
After the five rounds, the first 16 teams reach the round of 16, while the remaining 20 teams continue to play in the Coupe des nations, the "B-EM".
Teams that have already played against each other cannot meet again in the preliminary round.
1 round
Germany is placed 5th in the last European Championship in the first round and cannot meet any other quarter-finalist from 2011.
The draw on Thursday afternoon showed that Germany will face the Czech Republic in their first game; The Germans won this game in the formation Faci, Garner, Goetzke sovereign with 13: 1.
France faced Estonia, while hosts Italy met Ireland. Both top teams had little trouble and also scored their first victory.
There were "derbies" between Sweden and Norway, as well as Austria and Switzerland, and both went to the outsiders. Norway beat Sweden 13:10, Austria defeated the four-time world champion from Switzerland very narrowly with 13:12.
The "top game" of the first round was probably the game between Vice European Champion Monaco against the third from 2009, Denmark. There was also a surprise here. The Danes won 13: 9.
2nd round
In the second round, Germany met Scotland (in the same line-up as in round 1) and won the game after trailing 7-1 with twelve points in a row.
France, Belgium and Spain, who won their second games with ease, also remained unbeaten. Italy, on the other hand, had more trouble and won almost 13:11 against Denmark.
Austria met the Netherlands and this time had to accept a 12-13 defeat. Switzerland rehabilitated after the unexpected defeat and won against Bulgaria via Fanny, which thus could not get a single point from two games. Monaco also clinched its first victory against San Marino.
Israel, however, also lost the second game. It was 0:13 against Sweden.
3rd round
In the third round, Germany faced hosts Italy. In the end, you had almost no chance against the EM co-favorites at 3:13.
In addition to Italy, France, Belgium (which only lost two points in three games), Spain and, surprisingly, Andorra remained unbeaten and can already plan for the Poule round.
Switzerland, Monaco and Sweden won their second game after their opening defeat and stayed within striking distance of the top teams.
Austria had to admit defeat to Portugal and is under pressure for the last two rounds. Newcomer Jersey came against Belarus to their very first victory in an international championship. For the Belarusians, as well as for Latvia, Bulgaria, San Marino and the Ukraine, the end was already certain after the third defeat.
4th round
In round four, Germany beat England and will therefore start the last round on Saturday with a good starting position.
France, Belgium (already with the third Fanny in the fourth game) and Spain remained unbeaten.
Switzerland defeated Portugal 13: 9, Austria had to admit defeat to Slovenia (again 12:13).
Finland | - | Czech Republic | 13: 8 |
Austria | - | Slovenia | 12:13 |
Wales | - | Israel | 8:13 |
Norway | - | jersey | 13: 1 |
Estonia | - | Hungary | 13: 3 |
Lithuania | - | Russia | 9:13 |
Ireland | - | Belarus | 13: 3 |
Latvia | - | Ukraine | 13:10 |
San Marino | - | Bulgaria Bulgaria | 8:13 |
5th round
The fifth round was drawn on Friday evening.
Germany met Turkey and won the game after a 3:10 deficit with 13:12. The DPV team thus finished the preliminary round in sixth place.
France and Belgium played the top game, which the defending champion won almost 13:10. Spain, also unbeaten, met with Denmark again on a high-resolution team and won confidently.
Switzerland had to admit defeat to Italy. The Netherlands, Luxembourg, England, Finland and Slovenia won their "finals" and reached the poule phase.
Austria ended the preliminary round with a fanny against Jersey. Ukraine and Belarus did not win the preliminary round.
Closing table
For the order in the final table, the number of wins counts first, then the Buchholz points (BH) , the Feinbuchholz points (FBH) and then the ball difference, which remains unmentioned because all teams could be classified with the first three criteria.
The first 16 teams reach the second round of the European Championship, the teams in positions 17 to 36 continue to play in the Coupe des nations. The teams in places 29-36 have to go into the cadrage.
Poules
The 16 teams that have survived the preliminary round play the quarter-finals in four-poules. The poule round starts on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The poules were formed according to the following pattern:
The numbers refer to the placement after the preliminary round.
Poules | |||
---|---|---|---|
A. | B. | C. | D. |
1 | 16 | 6th | 11 |
2 | 15th | 5 | 12 |
3 | 14th | 8th | 9 |
4th | 13 | 7th | 10 |
This composition and the positions in the final table resulted in the following poules:
Germany initially met Luxembourg in Poule A. Other possible opponents were France and Slovenia.
After a win in the first game and a loss to France, Germany met Luxembourg again in the Barrage. Thanks to the 13: 4 success, the DPV team qualified for the quarter-finals again.
The four semi-finalists of the EM 2011 France, Monaco, Italy and Spain won their poules. Denmark moved into the quarter-finals with a Barrage victory over neighboring Sweden, as did Finland, which narrowly defeated Andorra, who were fourth in the preliminary round, in the Barrage.
In what is probably the strongest Poule B, Switzerland caused a big surprise with a clear victory over Belgium, as the Belgians were definitely among the favorites until then.
All teams that have reached the poules are qualified for the 2014 World Cup.
Final round
The Poule winners and runners-up reach the quarter-finals, which are played according to the pattern below. The semi-finals will be drawn freely.
All quarter-finals ended clearly in favor of the Poule winners. Germany resisted the host the most.
In the much closer semifinals, France and Monaco prevailed. Thus the 2011 final was reissued. Italy and Spain, on the other hand, remained “only” bronze.
In an exciting and high-class final that lasted over two hours, the defending champion prevailed with 13:10 and thus won the third European Championship title at the third event.

Coupe de Nations
The 20 teams eliminated after the preliminary round continue to play in the Coupe de Nations.
In order to get to a field of 16, which continues to play in four-poules analogous to the EM, the last eight of the preliminary round had to go into a cadrage.
Cadrage
Lithuania, Jersey, Bulgaria and the Ukraine were eliminated and thus missed qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

By contrast, Estonia, Israel and Russia surprisingly failed and missed qualifying for the World Cup.
The 25th European starting place goes to Slovakia as the best team in the preliminary round that failed in the Barrage.

KO phase
With Portugal, the nominally strongest team won the B-EM. In the final there was a clear 13: 1 over Poland.
Austria beat Hungary in the quarter-finals and came in a good third place in the Coupe de Nations.
Tir de precisión
The competition in the Tir de precisión is also taking place for the third time. All 36 shooters start in the preliminary round with an exercise of 20 shots.
The first four go straight to the quarter-finals, the shooters in places 5 to 20 reach the repêchage, the second chance in which the four best of this round complete the last eight. From the quarter-finals onwards, the knockout system is man against man.
Daniel Reichert starts for Germany.
Preliminary round
Defending champion Dylan Rocher (France) and ex-Junior World Champion Diego Rizzi (Italy) achieved the best results in the preliminary round with 50 points. Rizzi scored more "fives" and was the first to complete the first round. The Swiss starter Didier Senezergues and the Norwegian Benny Bel-Lafkih also made it directly to the quarter-finals.
Daniel Reichert narrowly missed the direct quarter-finals qualification in sixth with 38 points, but reached the Repêchage, just like the Austrian Sven Thill and the former European champion Charles Weibel from Belgium.
Repêchage
In the repêchage on Friday evening, the 16 shooters who had landed in the preliminary round in places 5 to 20 will compete.
The best four of this round complete the quarter-finals.
Veiko Proos from Estonia, third in the European Championships in 2011 and Charles Weibel from Belgium, European champion from 2009, scored the most points in the Repêchage with 36 and reached the quarter-finals together with Sven Thill from Austria and the Slovenian Gregor Sever.
Daniel Reichert retired, as did the vice European champion from 2011, Hugo Dores from Portugal.
Final round
In the quarter-finals, the first of the preliminary round meets the fourth of the Repêchage, the second meets the third and vice versa.
After every two victories there was a "dream final" between Diego Rizzi and Dylan Rocher. In an always exciting final at eye level, Rizzi had the chance to win with the last shot at the sow, but he punched and so Rocher defended his title from 2011.
Veiko Proos won his second medal with bronze at an EM, ex-European champion Charles Weibel also failed in the semi-finals.
