The association offers its approximately 300 members the sports of basketball , athletics , pétanque , rugby , water aerobics and gymnastics . In rhythmic gymnastics , the team of the club took several top places in the German championships.

history

The club emerged from the gymnastics department of the Braunschweiger Handwerkerverein, founded in 1865 as the second gymnastics club in Braunschweig (after the MTV Braunschweig ). The Braunschweig Gymnastics Brotherhood split off from this in 1877 , and in 1937 there was a reunification under the name Gymnastics Association . After the end of the Second World War , the club was re-admitted on November 27, 1945 under the new name of Turn- und Rasensportverein . In 2009 the department for rhythmic gymnastics at TuRa changed completely to MTV Braunschweig. In 2014 the football and tennis departments left the club.

rugby

On January 1, 2015, the rugby department of Welfen SC Braunschweig switched to TuRa. The 1st team competes under the name Rugby-Welfen Braunschweig in the Regionalliga Nord.

The history of the department goes back to the rugby department of the Post-SV Braunschweig founded on January 27, 1954 . In 1991, the Post-SV was able to achieve the club 's greatest success in this sport with promotion to the 1st rugby league , but after only one year they were relegated to the 1st league. In 1999 the rugby department was dissolved for financial reasons; the rugby teams of the Post-SV transferred to Welfen SC Heidberg . In 2011 the Welfen SC was promoted to the 2nd rugby league. In 2014 the rugby players decided to change clubs again as they were dissatisfied with the space available on the Welfen SC sports facility.
