Platinum (IV) sulfide is an inorganic chemical compound of platinum from the group of sulfides .

Extraction and presentation

Platinum (IV) sulfide can be obtained by reacting a stoichiometric amount of platinum with sulfur .

properties

Platinum (IV) sulfide is a gray-black solid. When rubbed, it smears like graphite or molybdenum luster . Platinum (IV) sulfide that is prepared dry is completely resistant to acids and alkalis and is not attacked by ammonium and alkali sulfide solutions. Its behavior in air and when glowing in air corresponds to that of platinum (II) sulfide . Its crystal structure corresponds to the trigonal polytype 2H of the cadmium (II) iodide type (a = 353.7 pm, c = 501.9 pm).
