European women's ice hockey championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Women's Ice Hockey Championship was the competition for national ice hockey teams from European countries held from 1989 to 1996 . Finland won the European Championship four times in a row , with Sweden winning the last tournament .

The European Championship was held in alternation with the World Championship and, with the exception of 1995, also served as a qualification for the World Championship. The World Championship has been played annually since 1997 (except in years with the Olympic Winter Games ), the European Championship has been discontinued.

In 1993 a B group was also set up for the weaker nations. The winner of the B group qualified for the A group of the following event.
