Joseph Gelineau

Joseph Gelineau SJ (born October 31, 1920 in Champ-sur-Layon , Maine-et-Loire department , † August 8, 2008 in Sallanches , Haute-Savoie ) was a French Jesuit and, as a composer, an important representative of the French hymn.

Life

In 1941 he entered the Jesuit order . He studied theology in Lyon-Fourviere, composition and organ at the “École César Franck” in Paris . He's in theology with a thesis on the forms of psalmody in the Syrian churches in the 4th and 5th century doctorate .

Joseph Gelineau composed several songs for the ecumenical Communauté de Taizé , such as Ubi caritas Deus ibi est , En tout, la paix du coeur , Il n'est pas de plus grand amour (II) , Une soif emplit notre áme , Dieu ne peut que thunder son amour , Regnum tuum veniat , Alleluia 14 , Alleluia 15 , Amen and Ordinariums chants for the Eucharist such as Kyrie-Christe eleison , Gloria , Credo , Sanctus , Agnus Dei .
