The European Weightlifting Federation is the European continental weightlifting association within the World Weightlifting Association (IWF) . The EWF was founded in Warsaw in 1969 and is headquartered in the Turkish capital Ankara . It has 49 member nations.

Member associations

49 national weightlifting associations are currently members of the EWF. The Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh associations are only associate members, the Portuguese association is currently (2017) suspended. With Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, associations from Eurasian countries are also members of the EWF. As with other European continental sports federations, the Israeli Weightlifting Association is a member of the EWF. In addition, the exotic Monaco and the weightlifting association of Kosovo, which is diplomatically not recognized everywhere, are EWF members. Former influential members were the German Weightlifting Association of the GDR and the Soviet Weightlifting Association.
