The European cricket championship has been held in various forms since 1996.
Like almost all international cricket tournaments, it is played in the one-day cricket game form, with a limit of 50 overs per innings . With a few exceptions, these games do not have one-day international status. England only participated with an amateur selection, if at all. Since 2011, the tournament has mostly been used to represent the regional level for Europe of qualifying for the ICC World Twenty20 or for the ICC World Cricket League .
In a play-off game for the last free place in Division 2 (2008), Croatia defeated hosts Israel with just 5 runs. Israel is relegated to Division 3 (2009).
A qualifier was determined for the tournament that served as the European qualification for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015 . This time Jersey was able to prevail against its fellow competitors.
2017
The league again played in ODI cricket served as qualification for the ICC World Cricket League Division Five 2017 . It was won by Germany that qualified for the world league.
