The FIA - European Dragster Championship (German for European Drag Racing Championship ) is the championship series for dragsters advertised by the FIA , which races exclusively in Europe.

The European Dragster Championship is the result of the collaboration between the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and the FIA, and the first championship has been held since 1996. The FIA rules applicable in Europe for the professional classes have largely been adopted by the NHRA.

The runs of the NitrolympX event, which takes place in Germany, are part of the European Dragster Championship.

vehicles

The vehicles start in the professional classes Pro Stock, Pro Modified, Top Methanol Funny Car, Top Methanol Dragster and Top Fuel.

Course of the race weekend

The races of the Dragster European Championship are carried out in the knockout system , also called " Elimination ", on a drag strip . The number of starting places for the respective class will be announced in advance. If there are more participants than starting places, the race weekend for some teams may already be over after the qualification.

On a race weekend, Friday and Saturday are available for the qualification runs. Between 2 and 4 qualification runs are carried out in order to be able to create a ranking of the achievements.

The elimination will take place on Sunday. The best placed driver in the qualification drives against the last placed driver, the second best against the penultimate, etc. If there are fewer participants than advertised starting places, some participants drive in the first race lap, out of sporting fairness against themselves.

Point system

Start of a Top Fuel Dragster (Jndia Erbacher, Switzerland) in a race at the Rico Anthes Quartermile 2019.

Championship points are awarded not only to participants who finish the elimination, but also to participants who successfully qualify for the race.
