Urs Erbacher
Urs Erbacher (born October 25, 1961 in Arlesheim ) is a Swiss dragster racing driver .
Career
At the beginning of the 1980s, Urs Erbacher began drag racing. Enthusiastic about the speed rush over the quarter mile, he later switched from cars to dragsters . His first major success was the 2002 FIA Vice European Championship in the Top Methanol Funny Car class. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 Erbacher won the FIA European Championship in this series.
After three championship titles, the move to top fuel dragsters , the premier class of dragster racing, was the next step in his career. Erbacher finished his first season with the approximately 8000 PS monsters in third place. With his Fat Attack Team , the multiple record holder won the FIA European Championship title in the top fuel class in 2007. In 2008, the fastest Swiss, as the press dubbed him, drove in the USA .
In 2009 Erbacher Racing established a professionally structured so-called “Racing School”, which was supposed to enable the necessary training and test runs for the TF license. The US driver Mike Salinas and the only German candidate for a TF license at the time (Jens Riehl) were thus qualified for a top fuel license.
In 2011 Erbacher was able to win the European Championship in the top fuel class, albeit somewhat surprisingly. His direct competitor Tommy Johnson was excluded from the ranking after a doping offense, which meant that Erbacher only got the chance to win his third title in the highest category after 2007 and 2010. In 2012, after a guest appearance in Abu Dhabi , he took part in a few races in the USA, but did not defend the European Championship.
