Matthias Biedermann

Matthias Biedermann (born January 28, 1983 in Dresden ) is a former German skeleton driver and now a trainer.

Matthias Biedermann is a sports soldier and has been running skeleton since 2001. He starts for SSV Altenberg . Biedermann began his international career as a junior. He took part in several junior world championships. In 2003 in Königssee he was Junior Vice World Champion behind Frank Kleber , 2005 in Winterberg behind Michi Halilovic and in 2006 in Igls behind Alexander Tretyakov . At Senior World Championships he reached tenth place in Koenigssee in 2004 and 16th place in Calgary in 2005 . He finished ninth at the 2004 European Championships in Altenberg , and a year later he won the bronze medal behind Kristan Bromley and Frank Kleber.

At the German championships, Biedermann was German champion the following year after finishing third in 2004 and fourth in 2006. After an initial phase in the European Cup, he started in the World Cup for the first time in early 2004. In Lillehammer he was 17th. At the next start in Igls, he was tenth. Best place was a second place behind Duff Gibson 2005 in Cesana .

Biedermann was trained by Dietmar Jarosch (athletics, previously Enrico Bauer) and Dirk Grundmann (national coach). After his active career, he became a skeleton trainer himself. Among other things, he looks after the European champion and overall world cup winner of 2010 and 2011, Martins Dukurs .

In addition to his sporting career, Biedermann studied at the Technical University of Dresden and the Distance University of Hagen and has been holding the title Master of Laws since 2014 .
