biography

Anne Berge, who comes from Bærum in southern Norway , took part in the first Junior World Championship in Auron , France , in 1982 and finished sixth in the combination as her best result . In 1983 she was the first Norwegian national champion in giant slalom. In 1989 she won another national title in combination.

On December 22, 1990, she achieved her first points win with tenth place in the slalom of Morzine and at the same time her first top 10 placement in the World Cup . She was able to repeat this result two weeks later in Bad Kleinkirchheim and thus qualified for the 1991 World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm . There she took eleventh place in the slalom. In the following season she was also able to collect her first World Cup points in the giant slalom and once made it into the top ten in Crans-Montana . At the Olympic Games in Méribel , she started in four disciplines. In the combination she improved after downhill rank 21 with the best slalom run to fifth overall. She finished the special slalom in eighth place. Berge's most successful World Cup season was in 1992/93 . She was classified eleven times in the points, for the first time also in the downhill , and as fourth in the giant slalom in Hafjell , she missed her first podium place by just a hundredth of a second. In the discipline classification, she finished tenth. At the World Championships in Morioka , a ninth slalom rank was her best result.

In the 1993/94 season she came into conflict with the Norwegian Olympic Committee . After the season got off to a good start with seventh place in Sölden , she had to do without a few races in December, suffering from flu . Her second best result remained a 13th place, which she did not meet the qualifying criteria of the Norwegian Association for the Olympic Games in Lillehammer . Due to the non-nomination, Berge felt that he was being treated unfairly and threatened the national committee with legal action. On March 19, she managed a sporty answer in the giant slalom in Vail and achieved her first and only World Cup podium with third place behind Martina Ertl and Vreni Schneider . At the end of the season she was national champion in giant slalom for the second time.

In the following winter, Berge started with three places in the points, but did not manage to qualify for a second round between mid-December 1994 and February 1995. On February 18, she won her last point in Åre in 30th place , and a week later she contested her last World Cup race in Maribor .
