Urška Hrovat (born February 18, 1974 in Ljubljana ) is a former Slovenian ski racer . She was one of the world's best slalom riders during the 1990s .

biography

Hrovat first appeared in 1986 and 1987 as the winner of the Trofeo Topolino . In 1991 she won gold in slalom and silver in combination at the Junior World Championships in Geilo and Hemsedal (Norway) . In 1992 she defended her slalom junior world champion title in Maribor and was third in the same discipline in Monte Campione in 1993 .

Hrovat won her first points in the World Cup on January 21, 1992, when she finished 20th in the slalom from Hinterstoder . On November 28, 1993 she reached third place in the Santa Caterina World Cup slalom for the first time, and on January 22, 1994 she was on top of the podium in a World Cup race for the first time in Méribel .

At the World Ski Championships in 1996 in the Sierra Nevada , Hrovat celebrated her greatest success by winning the slalom bronze medal. Consistently good performances during the 1995/96 season were enough for second place in the slalom discipline of the World Cup behind Elfi Eder . After tearing a ligament tear in her right knee in late January 1997, she had to end the season prematurely and thus missed the 1997 World Cup .

During the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons , Hrovat was able to celebrate a World Cup victory in slalom. After that, her performance proved to be very volatile, which is why she resigned from professional sports immediately after the 2001 World Cup in St. Anton am Arlberg . Her best result at the Olympics remained an eighth place in 1994 .
