He won eight world cup races in his career and bronze in the downhill at the 1991 World Ski Championships in Saalbach . His first downhill victory (December 7, 1987 in Val-d'Isère ) had the special feature that it was a rescheduled race. He had also led the day before (before Markus Wasmeier and Peter Müller ), but there was a breakdown due to poor visibility.
During giant slalom training on February 26, 1988, he broke his left metacarpal hand, but did not need an operation.
In 1996 he ended his career as a ski racer. He has been organizing sporting events since 2005.
