Lara Magoni (born January 29, 1969 in Alzano Lombardo ) is a former Italian ski racer. Her greatest success was the slalom runner-up in 1997.

biography

Magoni gained her first international experience at the Junior World Championships in 1986 and 1987 , where she finished tenth and twelfth in the downhill. In the European Cup she was able to score in the Super-G from the 1985/86 season . In the further course of her career she developed into a pure slalom and giant slalom specialist.

Magoni won her first points in the World Cup on December 2nd, 1990 with 15th place in the slalom of Val Zoldana , the first top ten place followed on January 12th, 1992 in the slalom of Schruns . In the European Cup she won the overall ranking in the 1991/92 season , finished third in slalom and sixth in giant slalom. In February 1992, she took part in the Olympic Games for the first time and was the best Italian in slalom, twelfth, in giant slalom, she dropped out in the second run.

In February 1993 Magoni finished 16 in the giant slalom and 20 in the slalom at the World Championships in Morioka-Shizukuishi . On March 20, 1993, she achieved her best giant slalom result in the World Cup with fourth place in Vemdalen . At the 1994 Winter Olympics , she was seventh in giant slalom and 16th in slalom. In the 1994/95 World Cup season , however, their results deteriorated significantly. She only qualified for a second run twice. In the following winter , too , she often did not make it into the second round, but was able to place twice in the top 15 in the slalom.

In the 1996/97 season , Magoni started almost exclusively in slalom, found her way back to her old form and was even able to clearly surpass her previous results. On January 4, 1997, she reached the podium for the first time in the Maribor slalom with third place, and on February 2, she finished second in Laax . The highlight of the season was the world championship in Sestriere , where Magoni won the silver medal in slalom behind her compatriot Deborah Compagnoni . She also made it onto the podium in the World Cup on March 7th in Mammoth Mountain and celebrated her first and only World Cup victory in the Vail slalom on March 16, 1997. At the end of this most successful season for her, she became Italian slalom champion.

In the following years Magoni could not build on these successes. In 1997/98 she reached three top ten placements in the World Cup and was 15th in slalom at the Olympic Games in Japan. In the 1998/99 season she came twice in the top ten, but at the World Championships in Vail she only reached 25th place in slalom. Magoni drove her last World Cup race on December 12, 1999 in Sestriere, after which she announced her retirement from active ski racing.
