Mammoth Mountain
Mammoth Mountain is a volcanic complex not far from Mammoth Lakes in eastern California in the USA. At the same time it is the name for an extensive ski area.

It lies on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in the Inyo National Forest . The ski area is on the north side of Mammoth Mountain. It is in the midst of the volcanic Long Valley Caldera .

Overnight visitors usually stay in the town of Mammoth Lakes and occasionally in neighboring towns like Bishop . The summit of the mountain offers runs and open mogul slopes . There are eight ski resort parks. The 4 main ski huts offer food, ski passes and ski equipment. There are two other restaurants on the mountain. Mammoth Mountain is the only resort in North America to offer three halfpipes of different sizes . The ski season at Mammoth Mountain lasts on average from November to June. The snow depth averages 10 meters, the record was a height of 16.8 meters.

Dave McCoy, a hydrographer with the Los Angeles Water and Energy Department, as a member of the Eastern Sierra Ski Club in the 1930s noted that Mammoth Mountain had significantly more snow on the record than other mountains in the area. The Eastern Sierra Ski Club had a practice lift there, which McCoy bought in 1941. In 1953, the United States Forest Service granted McCoy a license to operate the ski resort. He further expanded the infrastructure and the first ski lift was built in 1955. In 1966, two gondola lifts based on the Bell / Wallmannsberger system followed .

Mammoth has more than 1,400 hectares of ski area, serviced by 28 lifts. and 3 gondolas. The area has an altitude difference of 945 meters from 3,370 meters to 2,424 meters. Over 150 hiking trails and over 300 sunny days per year are an attraction for hiking holidaymakers.
