Florian Eisath (born November 27, 1984 in Bolzano ) is a former Italian ski racer . The South Tyrolean initially started in all disciplines, and from 2009 to the end of his career in 2018 mainly focused on the giant slalom. His mother Monika Auer was a successful luge skier , his younger siblings Magdalena and Michael are also ski racers.
Eisath learned to ski at the age of three. After some successes in children's races , he started at the age of 15 in January 2000 for the first time in FIS races . He graduated from the sports school in Mals . The first starts in the European Cup followed in February 2003. A year later he took part in the 2004 Junior World Championship in Maribor , where he was among the top ten in giant slalom and downhill. On December 7, 2004 Eisath celebrated his first victory in the European Cup in the giant slalom in Valloire . Just a week earlier, he finished tenth in the Levi giant slalom in the points for the first time. Then Eisath came to his first World Cup in the giant slalom of Alta Badia . However, like in his second World Cup race in Kranjska Gora in February , he was unable to qualify for the second round.
In December 2005, the Italian won three European Cup giant slaloms in a row within a few days. Shortly afterwards he made his third World Cup appearance in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, in which he scored the first points in 24th. In the European Cup final ranking, Eisath achieved second place behind his compatriot Michael Gufler with a total of four wins in both the overall and the giant slalom classification in the 2005/06 season . In March 2006 he became Italian champion in giant slalom for the first time . In December 2006 Eisath achieved his sixth European Cup victory. In the World Cup he finished four times in the points in the 2006/07 season . In the winter of 2007/08 he achieved his best World Cup result to date with eleventh place in the Wengen Super Combined .
The 2008/09 season was over for Eisath at the end of December due to a serious injury (broken calf and shinbone). Since this injury he has mainly concentrated on the giant slalom and only competes in this discipline in the World Cup. In the winter of 2009/10 he won the European Cup in the giant slalom in St. Vigil and, with another two podium places, came second in the giant slalom ranking. In the World Cup , 14th place in the first giant slalom in Kranjska Gora was his best result of the season. In the 2010/11 season Eisath was on the podium once in the European Cup and three times in the top 30 in the World Cup. In the 2011/12 season , Eisath scored in three giant slaloms in the World Cup, with 13th place in Bansko, his best World Cup result since four years ago. Towards the end of winter he suffered multiple fractures of his left upper arm in the shoulder area in a fall in Kranjska Gora.
After Eisath had two sixth places in giant slaloms ( Adelboden and Beaver Creek 2015) as the best World Cup results, he made it onto the podium for the only time in his career on December 18, 2016 in Alta Badia with third place. In the further course of the 2016/17 season, four more top 10 results followed, and two in the 2017/18 season. He contested his last World Cup race on March 17, 2018 in Åre .
