Michael Gufler (born March 24, 1979 in Merano ) is a former Italian ski racer . The strongest disciplines of the South Tyrolean were the giant slalom and the super-G ; but he also started in the downhill and the combination .

biography

In March 1995 Gufler contested his first FIS race . Since December 1998 he starts in the European Cup . On December 8th and 9th, 2001 he celebrated his first European Cup victories in two giant slaloms in Damüls . In the 2005/06 season he won another five races and thus the overall European Cup standings and the giant slalom standings. In 2002 , 2003 and 2011 he became military world champion in giant slalom, and in 2008 he won the silver medal.

On January 5, 2002, Gufler was used for the first time in the World Cup at the giant slalom in Adelboden . He got his first World Cup points three weeks later with 25th place in the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the giant slalom in Yongpyong on March 1, 2003, he achieved his best ever World Cup result in tenth place. During the next few years he could not confirm this result, he only rarely finished among the fastest 20. It was only in the 2009/10 season , since he has only started in the giant slalom in the World Cup, that he again achieved several top 15 results and closed End of the season with eleventh place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the second best World Cup result of his career. However, he was unable to repeat these results in the next winter , when he was only once among the fastest 20. He last competed in the World Cup in January 2012, after which he competed in various FIS races for two years.

In his only World Championship participation in 2003 in St. Moritz , he finished 18th in the combination and 25th in the Super-G. In 2003 and 2008 he was Italian champion in giant slalom.
