biography

After having competed in FIS races and various junior races for five years , Raita first appeared in the European Cup in January 1995 . On December 20, 1997 she started in the World Cup for the first time , at the slalom in Val-d'Isère . She scored World Cup points for the first time on March 1st, 1998, when she was 27th in the slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm . Two cruciate ligament tears forced her to take longer breaks in 1996/97 and 1998/99, which she used for her art studies at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi . In the 1997/98 season in between, she won the slalom championship of the European Cup with four wins.

From the 1999/2000 season, Raita established herself in the midfield of the Slalom World Cup (there was always no success in giant slaloms). On February 20, 2000 she achieved the best result of her career when she was sixth in Åre . In the 2000/01 season she won the slalom classification of the European Cup for the second time. On January 13, 2002, she equalized her best result in the World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. At the 2002 Winter Olympics , she finished eighth in slalom. After the 2001/02 season, Raita was regularly ranked in the World Cup points, but there were no results among the top ten. In March 2006, she resigned from top-class sport.
