Matjaž Vrhovnik (born May 6, 1972 in Ljubljana ) is a former Slovenian ski racer . He almost exclusively drove slalom races .

biography

Vrhovnik first appeared internationally at the Junior World Championship in 1991 . In the 1994/95 season he secured second place in the slalom classification of the European Cup with two wins and a total of four podium places . On February 19, 1995 he won his first points in the World Cup as 14th of the slalom in Furano .

In the following years, Vrhovnik was able to establish himself in the midfield without attracting any particular attention. That changed at the beginning of the 1999/2000 season when he was in the top ten for the first time. In the course of the season he was able to improve continuously and on February 20, 2000 he celebrated his only World Cup victory in Adelboden . He finished the season in third place in the Slalom World Cup. In the following season he could not confirm these services and in 2002 he was out due to an injury. At the end of the 2002/03 season, he resigned from ski racing.

Vrhovnik took part in the Olympic Games and World Championships, but did not get beyond a 17th or 22nd place. In 1998 and 2000 he was the Slovenian slalom champion .
