Ana Drev [ dreˈu ] (born August 6, 1985 in Slovenj Gradec ) is a former Slovenian ski racer . She competed in four disciplines of alpine skiing, her greatest successes being in the giant slalom.

biography

In December 2000 Drev took part in FIS races for the first time as a 15-year-old . She competed in her first European Cup race on February 24, 2001. She competed in the Alpine Ski World Cup for the first time on October 27, 2001, but in the next few years was mostly used in the European Cup due to lack of success. She won an FIS race for the first time in March 2003. In the 2003/04 season she gradually began to establish herself in the Eurapacup. At the 16th World Cup start she scored points for the first time, on October 23, 2004 with place 25 in the giant slalom in Sölden . On January 18, 2005, she won a European Cup race for the first time.

Drev gradually approached the top of the world in the discipline, but also had numerous failures. With 8th place in the giant slalom at Panorama on November 24, 2007, she made it into the top 10 of a World Cup race for the first time. However, this should remain their best result for more than eight years as their development stagnated. Although she was regularly in the points, good results stayed away for a long time. The next top 10 placement was a long time coming in December 2012.

Drev finally achieved a significant increase in performance in the 2015/16 season . On December 20, 2015, she achieved 7th place in the giant slalom in Courchevel, the best result of her career to date. On January 17, 2016, she surprisingly came second in the Flachau giant slalom . She confirmed this result two weeks later in Maribor , where she also came second. Both times she was only beaten by Viktoria Rebensburg . In the 2016/17 season Drev missed another podium, but she finished six times in the top 10. Three more top 10 placements were added in the 2017/18 season.

Drev's best result at a world championship is seventh place on February 16, 2017 in St. Moritz . At the 2006 Winter Olympics , she came 9th in the giant slalom; At the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver , she was 19th in giant slalom, but was eliminated in slalom. She had another failure in the giant slalom of the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang . After suffering a cruciate ligament rupture while training in Kronplatz in January 2020 , she announced her retirement from top-class sport a month later.
