ecology

Occurrence

It lives in the flood zones of the Rio Araguaia , its tributaries Rio das Mortes and Rio Garças as well as their tributaries in Mato Grosso , Brazil , which typically have blue-green, cloudy white water. The waters there have the following water values:

  • a pH of 4.5 to 6.5
  • a conductivity of about 17 µS / cm
  • a GH value of 1 ° to 8 ° dH
  • a temperature of 24 to 28 ° C.

Reproduction

As is usual with tetras, the spark tetra probably reproduces during the rainy season or is dependent on it. Exact reports on this are not yet known and refer to information from an aquatic perspective. But he is certainly a free-spawner who lays his eggs in dense and delicate plants.
