Tonetti contested his first European Cup race in St. Vigil on December 13, 2007 , where he could not qualify for the 2nd round.
On January 24, 2012 he was able to place on the podium for the first time in the European Cup. He reached 3rd place in the slalom in Zell am See behind Stefan Luitz and Nicolas Thoule . Two days later he made his debut in the Ski World Cup for the first time . Unfortunately, he did not finish at the Schladming night slalom. The following year he was able to win his first European Cup race in the Chamonix slalom .
In the 2014/15 European Cup season, Tonetti won the overall ranking. Tonetti achieved his best World Cup placement on December 6, 2015 with 6th place in the Beaver Creek slalom . He achieved the same result in the super combination in Chamonix on February 19, 2016. At the 2019 World Championships in Åre , he finished fourth in the alpine combination and narrowly missed a medal. He got this one day later when he won the bronze medal in the team competition.
