biography

Matthieu Bailet comes from the maritime Nice and starts for the ski club based there. He learned to ski in the Isola 2000 ski area in the Maritime Alps .

Bailet made his European Cup debut on January 11, 2014 in the downhill from Wengen . He won his first points a year later on the downhill run from Val-d'Isère . At the end of the season he won the state championship in the Super-G. After a disappointing 2015/16 season, in which he did not even get into the points, he surprisingly became the first French junior world champion in five years in the Super-G in Sochi . At the French championships, he defended his super-G title.

Bailet made his World Cup debut on March 17, 2016 as the reigning junior world champion in the Super-G in St. Moritz . He won his first World Cup points in his second race the following December in Val-d'Isère. After two injuries, he successfully started the 2017/18 season with two places in the points and achieved his best result in the World Cup so far with a high starting number and sixth place on the demanding Pista Stelvio in Bormio . He was able to repeat this result a year later on the same route.
