Bassino comes from Borgo San Dalmazzo in the Piedmont region . She has a brother two years older and five years younger. She learned to ski at the age of two, and in 2009 she won the slalom at the Trofeo Topolino . As a 15-year-old Bassino started her first FIS race in December 2011 and in the first season she won several national junior races against competitors who were up to four years older. In March 2012 she became Italian junior champion in downhill, super-G and giant slalom in Bardonecchia . She had her first appearances in the European Cup in December 2012, a month later she won her first European Cup points with 16th place in the downhill from St. Anton am Arlberg . In her first participation in the Junior World Championships, in 2013 near Québec , she finished sixth in the downhill. In March of the same year the first victory in an FIS race followed.
In the winter of 2013/14, Bassino established himself in the front of the European Cup. She achieved her first podium in this racing series on January 27, 2014 when she won the giant slalom in Sestriere . She won the gold medal in giant slalom at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Jasná . This gave her the right to start the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide , where she finished 19th in the giant slalom on March 16, 2014. She concluded the season with the Italian giant slalom championship. Bassino won her first World Cup points on October 25, 2014 with 21st place in the giant slalom in Sölden . On March 13th, 2015, she finished sixth in the giant slalom in Are for the first time in the top 10 of a World Cup race.
At the start of the 2016/17 season, Bassino achieved his first World Cup podium with third place in the giant slalom in Sölden. In the further course of the winter, she made it into the top 10 seven times, taking third place in the giant slaloms in Kronplatz and Aspen . On the other hand, she did not get past eleventh place at the 2017 World Cup in St. Moritz . In the winter of 2017/18 Bassino achieved a podium, this time as second in the combination of Lenzerheide . There were also four other results among the top ten, including a downhill run for the first time. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, she placed fifth in the giant slalom and tenth in the combination.
After a mixed start to the 2018/19 World Cup season , she again came third in the giant slalom in Kronplatz. At the 2019 World Cup in Åre , she surprisingly won the bronze medal in the team competition . After a total of four third places and one second place, Bassino celebrated her first World Cup victory on November 30, 2019 in the giant slalom in Killington . In Lienz , the 23-year-old finished second in the giant slalom on December 28, behind the American Mikaela Shiffrin .
