The Berdan Çayı (also Tarsus Çayı ) is a river in the Mersin Province in southern Turkey .
The Berdan Çayı was known in ancient times as Kydnos (Latinized: Cydnus ). The river arises at the confluence of its two source rivers Kadıncık Çayı and Pamukluk Çayı . These arise in the Taurus Mountains . The Berdan Çayı is then dammed by the Berdan Dam . Below the dam are the Berdan waterfalls on the river. The river flows through the city of Tarsus and the extreme west of the Çukurova Plain in a southerly direction before reaching the Mediterranean Sea about one kilometer northwest of the Seyhan Estuary. The Berdan Çayı has a length including its left source river Kadıncık of 124 km. The catchment area covers 1592 km². The mean discharge is 42 m³ / s.
