The Berdan Dam ( Berdan Barajı in Turkish ) is located in the southern Turkish province of Mersin on the Berdan Çayı River .
The Berdan Dam, located about 2 km north of the city of Tarsus , was built in 1975–1984 as a debris dam . The multi-purpose dam is used for irrigation , flood protection , energy generation and drinking water supply . The barrier structure is 41.6 m above the valley floor and 66 m above the foundation level. The dam has a volume of 2.16 million m³. The reservoir covers an area of 6.55 km² and has a storage volume of 87.5 million m³. The dam is designed to irrigate an area of 33,861 hectares. The dam supplies the large cities of Tarsus and Mersin with drinking water. The Berdan Dam hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 10.2 megawatts . The standard work capacity is 48 GWh per year.
