The Çukurova (part of Cilicia in antiquity and the Middle Ages ) is a fertile lowland between the Taurus Mountains and the Gulf of İskenderun . The three rivers Seyhan , Ceyhan and Tarsus flow through the Çukurova and turn it into an alluvial plain. Due to these fertile soils, Çukurova is the largest cotton-growing area in Turkey . The Çukurova plain is therefore one of the most important arable areas in Turkey. Other irrigation crops are: citrus crops , wheat , all vegetables , alfalfa and rice .

The following cities are located in the Çukurova plain:

The Çukurova is also known through the " Memed books " and other works by Yaşar Kemal .
