Daniel Danklmaier (born April 24, 1993 ) is an Austrian ski racer . He specializes in the fast downhill and Super-G disciplines as well as the combination . He has been a member of the Austrian Ski Association's squad since 2010 .

biography

Danklmaier is the son of the former ski racer Elisabeth Kraml . He comes from Aich im Ennstal and attended the main ski school and the ski trade school in Schladming . After reaching the age limit, he first took part in FIS races in the 2008/09 season . After the first top 10 result in an FIS race and winning the Austrian youth championship in downhill (age group I) in March 2010, he was accepted into the C-squad of the Austrian Ski Association . In the 2010/11 season, Danklmaier won the overall ranking of the Austrian Cup, which was held for the first time, a junior racing series organized as part of FIS races. In addition, he made his first appearances in the European Cup that same winter . He achieved his first points and top 10 placements in the European Cup in the 2011/12 season . At the end of winter 2011/2012, Danklmaier was the best of his year in the FIS world rankings in the super-G and super-combined disciplines and second in the downhill. At his first Junior World Championship in Roccaraso in 2012 , however, he remained without a result. Both in the downhill and in the Super-G, he retired after interim best times in the lower part of the route.

Before the winter of 2012/2013, Danklmaier was promoted to the B-squad of the ÖSV. He started the season with his first victory in an FIS race in the downhill from Tignes and celebrated his first victory in the European Cup two weeks later, on November 28, 2012, in the downhill on the Reiteralm . On January 10, 2013, Danklmaier had a hard fall in the European Cup run in Wengen . He suffered a cruciate ligament tear and a meniscus injury in his right knee. At the Junior World Championship in 2014 , he won the silver medal in the Super-G. On January 21, 2015, he won another European Cup downhill in Val-d'Isère , but otherwise fell short of expectations in winter 2014/15.

On November 18, 2015, Danklmaier suffered a cruciate ligament rupture during Super-G training in Sölden and thus missed the entire 2015/16 season. The following winter he achieved two podium places in the European Cup. Danklmaier made his debut in the World Cup on December 3, 2016 in the descent of Val-d'Isère, where he finished 40th. He won his first World Cup points on January 21, 2017 with place 25 in the downhill from Kitzbühel . His best World Cup result so far is a 5th place in the downhill from Kitzbühel on January 25, 2019.
