Franziska Gritsch (born March 15, 1997 in Innsbruck , Tyrol ) is an Austrian ski racer . She belongs to the A-team of the Austrian Ski Association and starts in all disciplines.

biography

Franziska Gritsch comes from Sölden and starts for the Sölden ski club. She started skiing at the age of two and a half. She is a graduate of the Bad Hofgastein Ski Hotel Management School and lives in Umhausen .

At the age of 16, she competed in her first FIS races and made her European Cup debut on January 24, 2014 in the Super Combined at Spital am Pyhrn . In January 2015 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Malbun and was seventh in both slalom and giant slalom. After a serious knee injury (rupture of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament as well as the collateral ligament and fracture of the tibia head ) she had to sit out the following season, but achieved five top 10 results straight away on her comeback in her first full European Cup season. At her first Junior World Championship in Åre , she competed in all disciplines. In the Super-G, she won the silver medal behind compatriot Nadine Fest, and the bronze medal in the combination. At the end of the season she was Austrian runner-up in the combination. In December 2017, she achieved her first victory in a European Cup race in the combination of Kvitfjell .

On December 28, 2017, she made her World Cup debut in the Lienz slalom . At the 2018 Junior World Championship in Davos , she won four medals: silver in slalom and super-G as well as bronze in combined and team competition . In December 2018 she won her first World Cup points with 13th place in the parallel slalom in St. Moritz . With another good placement in the slalom of Zagreb , she was included in the squad for the World Championships in Åre . In the combination, she finished eighth and won the silver medal with the team, but was not used in this competition.

With third place in the parallel race in St. Moritz on December 15, 2019, Gritsch achieved her first World Cup podium. In the following February she achieved another top result with second place in the super combined in Crans-Montana .
