Veronique Hronek (born September 23, 1991 in Unterwössen ) is a former German ski racer . She comes from Unterwössen and from 2011 was a member of the B-team of the German Ski Association (DSV).

biography

Like her brother Tim Hronek, Veronique Hronek was trained by her father at the local ski club when she was a child . She contested her first FIS race in December 2006 . After her first top 10 results at the beginning of 2008, she was also used in the European Cup from the 2008/2009 season, where she first made it into the points several times, but only achieved the first top 10 results in January 2010 . In March 2010 she was German runner-up in Super-G and downhill, behind Gina Stechert and Isabelle Stiepel . At the Junior World Championships , fourth place in the giant slalom 2011 was Hronek's best result.

In the 2010/11 season , Hronek made it to the top in the European Cup. After three second places, she won her first European Cup race on January 8, 2011 with victory in the giant slalom in St. Sebastian . With a total of seven podium places by the end of the season, she reached third place in the overall classification, second in the giant slalom classification and third in the Super-G classification. On December 12, 2010, Hronek made his debut in the giant slalom in St. Moritz in the World Cup , but still failed to score any World Cup points in her two World Cup races in the 2010/2011 season. At the end of winter she won the German Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the downhill and super-G.

On December 4, 2011, Hronek won World Cup points for the first time in her seventh World Cup race, the Super-G in Lake Louise , finishing 29th. Just five weeks later she achieved her first top 10 result in the World Cup with sixth place in the Super-G in Bad Kleinkirchheim . In the further course of the 2011/12 season she was among the top 15 in two Super-Gs and a giant slalom.

On February 12, 2013, Hronek won bronze with the German team at the World Championships in Schladming, but was not used as a substitute driver in the race. On March 3, 2013, she achieved her best ever World Cup result with 5th place in the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At the season finale on March 15, 2013 in Lenzerheide , she won the team competition against Sweden and Italy, which is only part of the Nations Cup, in the German team . At the ultimate end of the season, she won three German championship titles (downhill, super-G, giant slalom). On the descent from Val-d'Isère on December 21, 2013, she fell badly, tearing a cruciate ligament and tearing an inner ligament on her left knee, after which the season ended prematurely for her.

At the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek , Hronek injured his knee again in the team competition and had to take a break for the rest of the 2014/15 season . Shortly before her comeback in December 2015, she suffered another cruciate ligament rupture and was canceled for the entire 2015/16 World Cup winter and the following season.

Because of the many serious injuries, she was no longer able to achieve her performance and ended her active winter sports career on April 1, 2020. After the 2019/20 World Cup season , Christina Ackermann , Fritz Dopfer and Dominik Stehle from the DSV team also announced their resignation.
