Klaus Brandner (born January 30, 1990 ) is a former German ski racer . His strongest disciplines are downhill and super-G .

biography

Brandner comes from the Berchtesgadener Land . At the age of 15 he took part in FIS races from December 2005 , initially competing in all disciplines. Due to injury, he had to pause almost the entire 2006/07 season. The first appearances in the European Cup followed in December 2008 , but for the time being there were no noteworthy successes and the first place in the points was not achieved until January 2011. In his only participation in the Junior World Championships, 2010 in Megève , the sixth place in the downhill was the best result.

Brandner made his debut in the World Cup on February 23, 2013 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he finished 59th in the downhill. A little more than two weeks later, he won an FIS race for the first time. He won his first World Cup points on March 2nd, 2014 with 20th place in the Super-G at Kvitfjell . Three weeks later he won the German downhill championship title for the first time. In the 2014/15 and 2015/16 World Cup seasons, he was among the top 20 three times. In March 2016, he won the German championships in both downhill and super-G. On January 19, 2017, Brandner fell during the second training session on the Hahnenkamm run in Kitzbühel and suffered a patellar tendon rupture in his left knee. This not only meant the premature end of the 2016/17 season, but he also missed the entire 2017/18 season that followed.

Brandner was not able to compete again until November 2018. In none of his nine World Cup appearances in winter 2018/19 did he make it into the points, which is why he started more and more in the European Cup; his best result was fifth.

In the 2019/2020 season he only competed in the ski world cup races in North America, in which he could not classify himself in the top 30 points. On March 22, 2020, he announced his retirement from active ski racing.
