biography

Like Kathrin Zettel , Thomas Sykora , Elfi Deufl and a few other former World Cup runners, Gallhuber comes from Göstling an der Ybbs and thus continues the tradition of the largest ski resort in Lower Austria . She learned to ski at the age of three on the Hochkar . In 2013 she won the slalom at the Trofeo Topolino . Two years later she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Malbun , where she won the silver medal in slalom. She made her European Cup debut that same winter in Bad Wiessee, Bavaria . At the Austrian Championships in Hinterstoder , she just missed a podium finish as fourth in the giant slalom. In the following season she was used more in the European Cup, where she celebrated her first victory on January 21, 2016 after two podium places in the Oberjoch slalom . After a total of six podium places, she ended the season in fourth and second place in the overall and slalom rankings.

Gallhuber made her World Cup debut on October 24, 2015 in the giant slalom in Sölden . In the Aspen slalom , she scored points for the first time in her third World Cup race, finishing 26th. In Santa Caterina she landed in the top 20 for the first time before she approached the top 10 for the first time in the second slalom in Flachau with eleventh place. At the Junior World Championships in Sochi in 2016 , she won the silver medal in slalom. In February 2017, after a mixed World Cup season, she took part in the World Championship in St. Moritz , where she was eliminated in the second round of the slalom after finishing 25th. On November 26, 2017, she achieved a top 10 result for the first time with seventh place in the Killington slalom , which she was followed by five more over the course of the season.

At the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , the 20-year-old surprisingly won the bronze medal in the slalom with the fastest time in the second run after she was ninth in the first run. In addition, on February 24, she won the silver medal in the first ever Olympic team competition with Stephanie Brunner , Manuel Feller , Katharina Liensberger , Michael Matt and Marco Schwarz .

On December 14, 2018, she tore a cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in her right knee during slalom training on Semmering .
