Katharina Liensberger (born April 1, 1997 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian ski racer . She has been a member of the national team of the Austrian Ski Association since 2018 and competes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

Career

Liensberger attended elementary school in her home village of Göfis from 2003 to 2007 . She then attended the Bundesgymnasium Feldkirch from 2007 to 2009 , before switching to the main ski school in Schruns in autumn 2009 and then graduating from the Stams ski school from 2011 to 2016 . She is training at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Customs.

In 2015 she won bronze in the giant slalom at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Malbun . She made her World Cup debut at the night slalom in Flachau in January 2016. There, however, she did not get into the points. At the Junior World Championships 2016 in Sochi, she started in all disciplines and achieved a seventh place in slalom as the best result. Her best result so far in the European Cup was a 2nd place in the giant slalom in San Candido on March 17, 2017. At the slalom in Semmering on December 29, 2016, she won World Cup points for the first time in her career with a 22nd place.

At the 2017 Junior World Championships in Åre , Liensberger won the silver medal in giant slalom and team competition (with Fabio Gstrein, Simon Rueland and Marie-Therese Sporer). On January 3, 2018, the 20-year-old competed in the World Cup slalom in Zagreb with the high starting number 35, finishing 8th and thus for the first time in the top ten of a World Cup race. At the 2018 Junior World Championships in Davos , she won the silver medal in giant slalom behind her teammate Julia Scheib on January 30th, thus securing qualification for the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea . At the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , the team competition held for the first time , she won the silver medal on February 24 in the Austrian team with Stephanie Brunner , Katharina Gallhuber , Manuel Feller , Michael Matt and Marco Schwarz .

On January 8, 2019, she achieved a World Cup podium for the first time with third place in the night slalom in Flachau . Anna Swenn-Larsson , who was previously third , was subsequently disqualified because of a threader . At the 2019 World Championships in Åre , she won the silver medal in the team competition, in the slalom she finished fourth.

Shortly before the start of the 2019/20 World Cup season, she wanted to switch from Rossignol to Kästle Ski, but could not produce a shoe equipment contract required by the ÖSV. In Lienz , on December 28th, Katharina Liensberger stood on the podium for the first time in the giant slalom World Cup and finished third behind the American Mikaela Shiffrin and the Italian Marta Bassino .

Liensberger is in a relationship and lives in Göfis.
